Conjilon, Abiquiu. and Georgia Okeefe
They would go to Espanola every
Summer where his Grandfather
Lived, there in the adobe country
Where the Spanish were still lived.
He loved to go there, being
A young boy he could do
So much in the outdoors
There in the mountains.
North of there was a place
Called Conjilon, lakes in the
High country where the family
Would camp and fish.
On the way Grandfather would
Talk about the road there
When we would go through Abiquiu
He would talk about Georgia Okeefe.
He would work on her appliances
She would ask him what he
Thought of her paintings, he
Was honest and would tell her.
“Why is there a ladder in the sky?”
The concept of a ladder not being
On the ground was foreign to him,
Ladders belonged on the ground.
