Frog Pond

The frog pond was the memory,
Tuba City and the Navajo,
He got in trouble for going there and not
Coming back when he was called.

He liked the frogs and used to take them home,
The pond sat in the sand near town,
He would walk there from the trailer house,
There was red sand and sage.

He would see the store and old trading post,
The Navajo men would hang around there
They would dress traditionally,
Different to him but he liked it there.

The wagons would pull into the Standard station
Looking for parts for the wheels and
Wheel bearings, they still used the horses
To go to town and work on the sheep ranch.

There was an old Navajo man sitting everyday
At the trading post, some said he would talk to him.
The old man the pond, the frogs, Sagebrush and
Red sand are memories of a five year old boy.
