The Unappeased Afterlife
Unappeased was her
Life after this one,
The open grave,
Cousins had found.
Taking a long time,
He rode there with one,
In the scrub pine they rode
And rode on.
He smelt pinion, leather
And horse lather,
They were both fourteen years
Grave and cousin.
Untrustworthy, full beard,
He was Nineteen,
Uncertain Kinswoman,
In the wilds, youth and beauty.
On the surface of the arroyo ridge,
In fetal she was there
Shining in the sun
Her bones clean and kept.
“Through here they
Would travel you know”,
On the trail she may have died.
With the parents caring for the journey.
Birthing again with food
For the life a new,
They ate the pinion,
Life, the venison gave.
Corn of blue lead
To malnutrition
No vessels still placed
At her womb.
No pinion or corn
In the life after to help,
Pot hunters robbed her
Of her life after.
How could she live
In this place?
She will starve
In the legend
